The Busy Girl's Guide To Keeping Thick Hair Healthy

This post goes to all my thick-haired ladies (and gents) out there. To those that don't have to take and Advil every time there has is forced into a ponytail, let me tell ya you are one lucky duck.

But don't worry! By the end of this post you luxurious mane will be shiny and well maintained, despite your busy schedule (or maybe you're just lazy and need some tips - no judgement girl we've all been there).

Tip 1: Don't Wash Your Hair Everyday

Washing your hair on a daily basis strips it of its natural oils, making your hair less shiny and voluminous. Also, washing your hair that much means it will try and break a whole lot easier.

Tip 2: Condition Your Hair Everyday

While you shouldn't wash your hair every day, you should definitely condition it on a daily basis, even on the days you don't wash it. This will keep it hydrated and keep it from getting dry and splitting.

Tip 3: Avoid excessive product

Hairspray, styling gel, and mousse isn't something your hair requires. Instead of piling up all that product, instead look for non-alcohol based products that work as multitaskers, and limit two per hairstyle. This will make your locks more hydrated and less weighed down- allowing for a longer period between washes.

Tip 4: Don't Try Your Hair With A Towel

Rubbing hair with a towel when it's wet can cause it to break and frizz. Instead, try letting it air dry or squeeze it try with a cotton t-shirt.

Tip 5: Stimulate Your Scalp

Stimulate your scalp by massaging it once a day in addition to brushing you hair. This increases blood flow to the follicles in your scalp, boosting growth. (Bonus tip: If you do this with peppermint or eucalyptus shampoo it will create a pleasant tingling sensation that further stimulates your scalp).

Tip 6: Brush Your Hair When It's Dry

While brushing your hair is essential to keeping your hair healthy, brushing while its wet can cause breakage and dull your hair as it dries. Instead, brush before showering/getting your hair wet or use a wide toothed comb to gently brush when it's wet.

I hope these tips will make it easier to manage your thick hair!

Don't forget- your luxurious locks are gorgeous :)
