An Honest Review Of Crazy Rich Asians
To be completely honest, I probably would have seen this movie 6 times in theatre even if it was bad.
Before we get into the review of the actual plot, I just need to say that this movie is beyond important. For this first time in my entire life I see an. All. Asian. Cast.
Not only was the cast all Asian, but Crazy Rich Asians also had an Asian director! The outstanding Jon M. Chu.
Woohoo!
Now, to the actual plot...
SPOILERS AHEAD
I have to say, Crazy Rich Asians was not only important representation wise, but also just overall an insanely good movie.
My personal favorite scene was the opening one, it was amazing to see our queen Eleanor Young (played by Eleanor Yeoh) be a straight up savage to that racist hotel guard.
As a half-Asian person who has faced discrimination in the past, seeing Eleanor stick it to the doormen filled me with a sense of pride.
That being said, the wedding scene between Colin Khoo (played by Chris Pang) and Araminta Lee (played by Sonoya Mizuno) was stunning.
I mean....
Look at that dress!
The literal river for her to walk down the aisle in!
Everything down to the flower lights is perfection... and it only cost the couple 40 million to throw the wedding (😬).
If you happen to be royalty or have an extra 40 mil lying around, then this dream wedding could be yours!
Last but certainly not least- how could I not mention the funniest person in the whole film?
Rachel Chu's (played by Constance Wu) college roommate- Goh Peik Lin! (played by Awkwafina)
The lovable and hilarious celebrity rocked a short blonde cut for CRA and totally crushed it if I do say so myself.
Overall, Crazy Rich Asians was a funny, well-written, and well executed film. 10/10 would for sure watch again!
